As part of our ongoing Youth Project with LAE Tottenham, we visited every photographer’s dream – The Getty Images Archive.

Located in East London, we wanted them to see the famous Hulton archive, the world’s largest and most comprehensive archive in private hands with over 130 million images that date back to the beginning of photography. The photographs are in a purpose built preservation facility with over 12 km of linear shelving and racking to hold the vast collection of images.

It was amazing! A place where one can respect how photography has become such a powerful tool in our lives and the students enjoyed seeing such rich historical photography and photojournalism.

We are sure this has got them inspired for the competition and with their own photography

Massive thank you to Getty’s Melanie Hough for showing us the archives plus walking us through this paradise for lovers of photography. Here you get completely present to what Getty write – that photography is the language of our time, transcending all boarders whilst communicating a message in an instant. Everyone speaks photography and that’s why we know it can also be a great tool for our mental wellbeing.
