Jim Fenwick

Jim Fenwick explains more on the long-term project behind his incredible photo ‘Stretch’ that was kindly donated to TCPM & is now exhibiting at Lloyd’s of London:

“For the last three years I have been working on a project about a boxer from Ghana. Richard Commey comes from the poor coastal neighbourhood of Jamestown in Accra. Within Jamestown you will find the toughest place in all of Ghana, Bukom. In Bukom men fish, fight or hustle. Richard is a ‘Bukom Boy’.

It has been an amazing journey full of excitement, heartache and emotional reflection. The project will conclude after Richard fights for the world title in 2018. Richard Commey gives hope to many in Ghana. Hope that one can find a better future.

My work tends to explore community along with the sense of one’s place in the world. I have different approaches depending on my subject matter and project. My next body of work will look at attachment theory and will be shot using a different approach and methodology.”
